4 year terms (22nd amendment limits possible terms to two)

Roles of the President:

  • Chief Executive: Runs the executive branch of the government
  • Chief Legislator: Can sign or veto bills that come from Congress
  • Party Leader: Lead his political party- support party bills and candidates
  • Chief Diplomat: Negotiates treaties with other countries
  • Commander in Chief: Makes important military decisions
  • Crisis Manager: dealing with sudden, unpredictable, and potentially dangerous events
